In the early twentieth century this was a bright street, lined with acacia trees that dropped their leaves in winter to let the sun through, dotted with two- and three-storey houses and presided over by the great protagonist of the neighbourhood: the majestic Central Market.
At numbers 37 and 39, still standing, are two beautiful houses with nearly 130 years of history, beside what was once the main entrance of the old Calderón Cinema — home to La Confitería La Colmena. Today, on that very spot, you'll find ABAL Central Market Apartments. And the street still has what matters: the Central Market next door and, right across, Horchatería Azul, the traditional one, since 1950.
